Blog Entry 6

Look's like I'm off to Essay 2 in my Writing class. This week we are to create a thesis statement and begin researching our topics. I am so used to using the web to research, I am a bit stumped about finding other resources. It will feel odd going to the library to research using books! I hope I find as many resources as I will need. I will search my local library and the KYVL. I am sure there are many resources that I will find as I move forward.

It is now time to choose a topic for Essay 2. I am a little nervous about this one because it has to be 5-7 pages! This paper will be a persuasive writing. I have already learned some things about persuasive writing. For example, I didn't realize that it was better to use third person point of view, rather than first or second. Also, I didn't realize that using generalizations such as never or always could negatively impact an essay. I know I will learn more as the essay progresses. I have never written a persuasive essay before.

At last! My essay on Precognition is complete and revised and the final step is to submit it for grading. I changed some of the wording that didn't sound so good after another reading of the paper. I have learned from writing this essay that research can take much longer than expected! Precognition was a hard topic to find reliable information on because the widespread focus on it is whether or not it is even real. Because of this, there was not much research or scientific data to be found. I worked very hard and I hope it pays off with a good grade!

Blog Entry 3

I just submitted my rough draft to Essay 1 for peer review. I only had one review, and it pointed out a misspelling that I had looked over during my proofreading. The review was helpful and I will read my essay over again and look for flaws. It will be helpful to read it again now that I have had a few days away from writing it. Maybe my mind will be clearer! I hope I have another review before it is time to turn the paper in. I am a little concerned that I didn't do the Works Cited page correctly; maybe someone will send me a suggestion about it. I think that is one of the most important parts of my essay and it needs to be done correctly.

Blog Entry 2

I began researching my topic for a course essay. This essay's topic will be precognition. I found five websites, some useful, other's not so useful. Wikipedia (http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precognition) is a site with information on almost any topic. It will be useful to me in writing my essay because it has a lot of information on precognition. It cites all of it's sources, so it should be reliable. Princeton University (http://www.princeton.edu) has a website that offers information on Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research. The information on this site would be reliable because it is from an accredited university, but it will not be useful to me because it doesn't have specific information on precognition. Scifipedia (http://scifipedia.scifi.com/index.php/Precognition) is part of scifi.com, which is connected to the popular television channel. This site has useful information on precognition and looks like a reliable information source. The editor's name and contact information are listed and the site is well organized. New Age Directory (http://newagedirectory.com/dream/futuredream.htm) is a site with information on many paranormal topics. This site has information on precognition, but may not be reliable because I did not see any author/creator information. Ultramind (http://ultramind.ws/develop_utilize_precognitive_abilities.htm) is a site with information on precognition/ESP. This site will not be useful to me because it is trying to sell a product and will have a one-sided argument in favor of the product topic.

Blog Entry 1

This is my first blog! I created it for my English 101 class, which is centered around the paranormal. I am already really enjoying this class and I can't wait to see what we will be doing later on. I anticipate writing and learning about all areas of the paranormal and I know I will learn a lot. Since I am a strong believer in the paranormal, I will really enjoy writing about it. There are so many interesting topics to explore! I will be posting as we move along throughout the course.
